whats the point of having these "contests"?  so that am's and pro's that are already in the game and getting paid can enter and win?  so they can get noticed more than they already are?
 
the contest might be somewhat cool if ONLY unsponsored/unknown skaters could enter otherwise it will be yet another 5boro judged and won contest like all the other so called "contests" that have come up as of late.  

i love 5boro and i love what steve is doing for the scene but they should go to tampa pro or some other legit "contest" where the other competitors(for a lack of better words) are atleast on the same level.  

in short...
NYC contest + NYC skate politics = 5boro win

5Boro AM Willy Akers took 3rd place at Tampa Am out of approximately 200 skaters this year (he also took 5th at Tampa Am in 2004).  So basically this part of your argument doesn't really hold water....

again, i love 5boro, i think the team rips but why throw a contest in NYC if there no chance of anyone besides 5boro winning?   why would anyone even want to enter knowing that the contest is completely biased?  not because someone skated better but simply because of skate politics.   

as is, i think we can all assume that brandon westgate will take home some money, no matter what he does or doesn't do.  he only has to land a trick or two and he's off to the finals....say it ain't so.

perhaps when the lame ass political aspect of skating disappears, maybe these NYC contests will be somewhat fair and worth going to for the rest of the skaters out there.

Although, since the contest hasn't happened yet I reserve judgement as to how it will go down, at that banks comp you had an ALL-STAR presence there  but yet a lot of the heavy-hitter, 3 page spread pop-up book ad haver's did not enter the contest and I would have liked to see em kill shit. All the same some no-name dude(Kyle Frederick) comes through with the magic and they shut him down. Fukkin Marquis Preston comes through and they wouldn't even let him advance...do the math
