I got this from SteveR (@5boro),
This Saturday (weather permitting) at 1pm there will be an impromptu rally/gathering at the Brooklyn Banks. FuelTV will be doing a piece on it. Please try to come out and show your support.
As you might have noticed, the Banks did not close on the 15th, so you still have time to get out there.

I haven't been following this as close as I should be, but has anyone brought to anyone's attention of maybe restoring the little banks in this four year period of the spots absence? All it would probably take is some tools to get the benches out of there and some cement to go over the piles of garbage that they have there now after their "restoration." Plus, it's not actually under the bride so it wouldn't be effected by actual bridge construction/renovation. That place is literally useless. There's needles lying around there and it's like thirty feet from a 24-hour police booth, the least they could do it give it to us, its not like anyone short of Mike Vallely is going to be hopping into traffic.

You really don't even have to restore the WHOLE thing, just certain obvious parts that everyone would skate. Personally, I'd rather have the whole "small banks" area back than the "big banks".

The small banks is what MADE the banks, so I'd rather film there. All the city has to do is eliminate the option of parking cars there and taking the grass and benches off. Others can add the flatbar and box somewhere in the area.

..and we could just use the bricks from the big banks to fill in the grass areas. Strictly man-power, little additional resources. It'd be nice if the gate was taken down, but that's already asking too much.

Did it happen today? How did it go? I found out way to late about this.

So what our picnic table(which took 2 of my friends 4hrs to carry to our spot), our grindrail and our barricade were robbed by them. I have nothing against aggressive rollerbladers. Just fruitbooters.

Thanks to everyone who came out today. It was a great turnout and sesh- the gathering had more to do with "skate-able public space" then just the Brooklyn Banks temporarily closing. We really need to make the city aware that we all need our public space to do whatever it is we do and that when they take away our public spaces(and don't replace them) we will just be even more likely to be where they don't want us...

I'm sure you know more about the situation than I do, but I'm sure there's a way we (skaters, in general) could present it to them in a way like, "look, you literally turned this place into a fucking wasteland..."-type angle. Perhaps showing them how dilapidated it has become -- the weeds growing everywhere, broken glass, HEROIN NEEDLES, etc. In all relativity to the space we use at the big banks, which is pretty clean by Banks standards, and by comparison, it would be a good look for them to give it back to us, since we are literally the only ones that use it. All the Clean-Up events, etc. are probably a way to better situate that point.
But then again, I'm thinking logically, the city doesn't really like to do that. They'd rather co-sign the MTA dropping student Metrocards, so who the hell knows what they're thinking.

So, I mentioned it to SteveR, his response was "already on it". Whether the city will follow through or not is a crapshoot (as is everything the city does), but the hope is for the little banks to return when the big banks do..
..in 4 years.

I will do all I can to get the small banks back to it's original condition. With the city and DOT there is a lot of red tape that must be crossed in order to get things done but the more support we have the better the chances(petition coming soon)
Thanks for everyones support
