I'm not really familiar with it, but do any of you guys know of any cheap/good places to stay for some tourists/weekend warriors on a limited budget? I know there are a bunch of hostels, but do you know of anyone who stayed in any, and enjoyed it?

Since I live here, I've never stayed in one locally. Thanks.

Haha, yes of course I'm from NYC, New York native born and raised. But I've never had to stay at a hotel or hostel here. I just know some people coming to visit, and I have no recommendations for them in terms of cheap lodgings.

if its not going to be a long stay, you can try asking a shop owner if they could let your friends crash at their shop?  its happened before but its usually a last resort.

honestly, i would get a hotel room outside of manhattan(anywhere cheaper) and get as many people in there as i can.

Thanks for starting this thread.
We're coming to NYC from Europe and need a place to stay for 2 weeks or so.
So if you have any idea of a decent hostel for a reasonable price feel free to contact me. Holiday Inn does not count for reasonable price, thank anyways.
Also if you have a big couch, and you're willing to let 3 skateboarders sleep at your place for a while, would be perfect too.
Thanks a lot!

you can also look for a sublet for a couple weeks: http://newyork.craigslist.org/sub/

you are probably better off looking in brooklyn, like bushwick or east williamsburg in terms of location and price.

whatever you do, do NOT stay at the Glenwood Hostel. I used to work across the street from there, extremely shady. It's basically a shooting gallery/whorehouse. That crazy tall guy that used to preach in Tompkins but most recently has been yelling about crazy shit on Bedford Ave lives in there, it's is home. Also, there's a halfway house for deranged hasids across from it, so that's a bonus.

Every once in a while some very clueless Europeans or Asians would check in there with tons of luggage ready for their great trip to NYC and I'm sure they left the city with no intention of ever returning based on their experiences at Glenwood.
