by may 17th? haha does that mean its definately gonna be open by that day? i went there on friday and asked one of the comstruction workers when they r opening it, they said that they are gonna have some kind of grand opening this friday comin up, anyone hear anything about that?

i went yesterday (may 1st) around 6pm they said that it wasn't going to be open until june 1st. I confirmed this with more then one source.
what a bummer.

as for details about helmets, and fees does anyone know whats up with that?

wow this is getting ridiculous, we should rally against them keeping the park closed, they should just open up a small pathway towards the skatepark, this is really stupid. how about the bronx park  Shocked

The Hudson river Trust website says 'Skatepark: Opening in May'. That's direct from the source, although May could be tomorrow, or the end of the month, obviously.

The park is going to be free for sure, and pad/helmet rules have not been made public. HOWEVER, it is NOT park of the NYC parks and rec, meaning they don't have to adhere to the nonsensical pad/helmet rules that those parks have. Let's cross our fingers that it's use at your own risk (no pads).

Also, I think this has been mentioned on here, but just down the path a bit in Tribeca, Pier 25 will also have a skatepark built by California Skateparks. It is already under construction and will open this Fall. This means that there will be two sick skateparks within close proximity to each other right on the river. Get stoked.

don't forget about the one just up the river on 30th also...3 within skating distance, 4 if you want to skate to 108th.

UPDATE! the Pier 62 West Side skate park actual opening date and time will be confirmed next Wednesday
